Within the framework of the 16th Session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), Deputy Minister of Justice of Georgia, Tamar Zodelava, met with Bjørg Sandkjær, Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA).

During the meeting, the parties discussed the existing cooperation between Georgia and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, as well as opportunities to further deepen this cooperation, including in the areas of public administration, digital transformation, and geospatial information management.

Particular attention was paid to the United Nations Public Service Forum, held in Tbilisi in June 2026 in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. It was noted that successfully hosting the Forum marked an important milestone in the partnership between Georgia and the United Nations and provided an opportunity to showcase Georgia’s experience in public administration and public service development at the international level.

The parties also discussed Georgia’s active participation in the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management and the country’s growing role in global geospatial information management processes. Particular emphasis was placed on the development of Georgia’s National Spatial Data Infrastructure, as well as reforms implemented in the areas of land administration, digital governance, and innovative public services.

The meeting also highlighted Georgia’s readiness to make greater use of its successful experience and expertise at the international level, including within relevant United Nations working and expert formats, contributing to capacity-building in other countries and to the development of international approaches and practical tools.

Tamar Zodelava expressed her appreciation to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs for its fruitful cooperation and continued support to Georgia, and underscored the importance of further strengthening the partnership with the United Nations. The parties expressed their readiness to continue active cooperation in the areas of public administration, digital transformation, and geospatial information management.

The 16th Session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) was held from 5 to 7 August at United Nations Headquarters in New York, bringing together high-level representatives of Member States and experts in the field.
